How Your Information Is Stored

Information is stored securely using password-protected and encrypted systems. Only I have access to your records unless disclosure is required by law or safeguarding responsibilities.

Confidentiality

Everything discussed in counselling is confidential except where:

  • There is a serious risk of harm to yourself or another person

  • There are safeguarding concerns involving a child or vulnerable adult

  • Disclosure is required by law

  • A court orders disclosure

Where possible, I will always discuss this with you first.

How Long Records Are Kept

Client records are retained:

  • Adults: 7 years after therapy ends

  • Children and Young People: 7 years after their 18th birthday

Records are then securely destroyed.

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access your information

  • Correct inaccurate information

  • Restrict processing

  • Request deletion where appropriate

  • Object to processing

  • Lodge a complaint
